Chelsea Clinton to marry son of convicted bank and wire fraud felon. Ed Mezvinsky, father of Fiance Marc Mezvinsky, pleaded guilty to bank and wire fraud charges in 2002. He served a prison term and was released last year.
Chelsea Clinton announced her engagement to Marc Mezvinksy today.
Clinton, 29, is the child of former President Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Clinton currently works for a New York hedge fund. She is also attending Columbia University’s School of Public Health, pursuing a graduate degree.
A spokesman for former President Bill Clinton said that the couple got engaged over the holiday Thanksgiving weekend.
Mezvinksy, an investment banker at Goldman Sachs, started dating Clinton in 2005 while attending Stanford University. Mezvinksy’s family are not strangers to politics. His mother, Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinksy , served in Congress as a Pennsylvania representative. His father, Ed Mezvinksy, served as the Iowa representative in Congress. Ed Mezvinsky pleaded guilty to bank and wire fraud charges in 2002. He served a prison term and was released last year.
Clinton and Mezvinksy first became friends when they were teenagers. The couple plan to get married next summer.
The Mezvinsky family are old friends of the Clintons.
Last summer, rumours were circulating that the couple were planning to get married in August at Martha’s Vineyard. The rumours ended up being false.
“We’re sorry for the mass email but we wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving! We also wanted to share that we are engaged! We didn’t get married this past summer despite the stories to the contrary, but we are looking toward next summer and hope you all will be there to celebrate with us. Happy Holidays! Chelsea & Marc,”
Clinton campaigned for her mother Hillary during her run for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. Hillary was unsuccessful and lost to Barrack Obama.
