Acting Premier Bill Estabrooks expressed his condolences today, Nov. 30, to the family and friends of union leader Gerald Yetman, who passed away Friday, Nov. 27.
“Gerald Yetman was a driving force in Nova Scotia’s labour movement since the 1960s,” said Mr. Estabrooks. “His contributions to a number of local unions, as well as his honourable service to his country during the Second World War, will not be forgotten.”
Mr. Yetman was the first full-time president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour.
He also served as president of the North Sydney local of the Carpenters Union and the Cape Breton District Labour Council, and was a national representative for the Canadian Union of Public Employees.
