police2As we reported earlier, a gunman in Parkland Washington entered a Forza Coffee Company store, east of McChord Air Force Base, and shot dead four officers at 8:15 a.m. this morning. Three of the officers were male and one was female.  The Lakewood Police Department police officers were catching up on paperwork before starting their Sunday shifts.

The manhunt continues and we have received new information on the shooting.

The four police officers were uniform, and their patrol cars were parked outside. While there were other people on the scene, only the police officers were fired at.

The officers had been with police department since it was formed five years ago.

One of the officers killed fought with the gunman before dying according to a police spokesperson. The officer may have wounded the gunman. The suspect is now on the run and has not been identified. Investigators are asking area medical service providers to report any people wounded by gunshots.

Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says that it was a targeted ambush, and called it an “execution” style killing. Troyer says that they have not found a motive for the killings yet.

Lakewood Mayor Douglas Richardson said today that the names of the victims would be released to media as soon as all family members were notified.

The initial $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the gunman has been increased to $100,000.

Security at the McChord Air Force Base has been increased.
