The optics of so-called "child care activists" jumping on board a membership campaign with CUPE are telling. Not that long ago Toronto residents who had kids in city-supplied daycare centres had to sit out a six week strike where the daycares simply shut down because the CUPE staff were on strike. Imagine the potential if the so-called "activists" succeed in driving out any other options other than putting kids in a national version of that system. This has very little to do with respect for either children or their parents and very much to do with imposing a doctrinaire ideology on society. I think the holier-than-thou attitude displayed by some of the noisier activists says it all.

Well let's see, you've got First Call, CUPE, and the Child Care Advocacy Association, all of which have members whose income depends on daycare, so what else would they say? This is not an outpouring of public opinion at all. It is the vested interest cheering itself on. It is like a sushi restaurant staff and all its employees and suppliers hosting a forum to urge government to subsidize sushi restaurants and no other because nutrition is vital to survival.

We see through this ruse by the way.

Daycares do not own early education. They are not the only providers of good care. I keep thinking of that monopoly game. We parents out here could get money directly from government and decide for ourselves which care style to use for our kids. But daycares such as this forum group are afraid to give us that option. They want the government policy to be 'Do not pass Go . Do not collect $200. Go directly to uh, daycare'.
