October 7, 20092009 Premier’s Award of Excellence Recipients

A total of 25 teams received gold, silver and bronze Premier’s Award of Excellence awards for their contribution to improving services to Albertans.

Here is a list of this year’s recipients who were recognized at the 15th annual ceremony on
October 7, 2009.

GOLD AWARDS
Child Intervention Caseworker Intern Program
Alberta Children and Youth Services

  • This program resulted in a targeted strategy that provided interns with a realistic understanding of the caseworker field and resulted in increased commitment and retention.

Alberta Schools Alternative Procurement Project-Procurement Phase
Alberta Infrastructure

  • The team delivered a cost-effective alternative to traditional school construction.

Alberta International House
Alberta International and Intergovernmental Relations

  • Using a 16,000-square-foot facility, Alberta International House brought provincial, federal, and industry associations together with 10 national oil companies during the 2008 Global Petroleum Show.

Local Government Education Project
Alberta Municipal Affairs

  • Responding to municipal concerns regarding voter apathy and a lack of participation in local government, the team developed interactive educational support through Alberta Education’s redesign of its Grade 6 social studies curriculum.

Sustainable Resource Development Mobile Office Initiative (MOI)
Alberta Sustainable Resource Development

  • A bottom-up initiative driven by the dedication of department staff, the team integrated mobile office technology into existing operational systems.

Rationalization and Optimization Decision Application (RODA)
Alberta Transportation

  • This web-based software is the first program to employ benefit/cost lifecycle analysis for transportation infrastructure construction program planning.

BizPaL
Service Alberta

  • This online tool streamlines the permit and license process at three levels of government and directs a business owner to relevant information and the required forms in less than 30 minutes.

Personal Information Protection Act Review
Service Alberta

  • The recommendations of this balanced review, which was based on stakeholder input, will enhance the protection of personal information and meet the need for new solutions to emerging issues arising from rapidly changing technologies.

Residential Tenancy Dispute Resolution Service Project
Service Alberta

  • The program was designed to help landlords and tenants settle serious differences without resorting to the costly, complicated and time-consuming process of going to court. The project provides a friendly service that reduces conflict through quicker resolution.

SILVER AWARDS
Casework Practice Model Implementation Project
Alberta Children and Youth Services

  • This program involved changing a culture of practice and service delivery affecting approximately 2,100 Child and Family Services Authorities staff and 600 Delegated First Nations Agencies staff.

Grade Level of Achievement Reporting
Alberta Education

  • Data collection from the program uses teachers’ assessments of student achievement to provide valuable information to schools, school authorities and the province.

linkAlberta.info (datalink) Project
Alberta Employment and Immigration, Alberta Advanced Education and Technology, Alberta Education, Alberta Children and Youth Services, Alberta Finance and Enterprise

  • This initiative offers a one-stop gateway to aggregated socio-economic information and data providing an effective business environment to support comprehensive data sharing within government.

Municipal Dispute Resolution Services (MDRS) – Public Input Toolkit for Municipalities
Alberta Municipal Affairs

  • The Public Input Toolkit is a comprehensive package of public input resources allowing small to mid-size municipalities to consult more effectively with citizens.

Moving Ahead: It’s My Life
Alberta Seniors and Community Supports

  • Since 2005, this project has enabled 27 individuals to live closer to their families. The project has an annual savings exceeding $2 million and was completed by maintaining staff morale.&nbsp

The Milk River Bypass Project
Alberta Transportation

  • The bypass meets local access needs, provides enhanced traffic flow, higher operational efficiency and a better transportation network of this segment of the North South Trade Corridor.

Wetaskiwin Air Show 2008
Alberta Culture and Community Spirit

  • The event exceeded its forecasted revenues, met its targeted budget and left a $67,000 surplus for funding future shows. The show won other awards and developed an Emergency Response Plan which will serve as a model for any major event by the International Council of Air Shows.

BRONZE AWARDS
Agricultural Industry Governance Review
Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development

  • The review, which consulted with stakeholders in Alberta’s agriculture industry, helped form the basis of key documents and several recommendations that have resulted in proposed amendments to the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act.

Equipment & Technology Expo
Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development

  • With over 220 industry participants and 61 exhibitors representing 27 manufacturers, the expo saw the largest turnout ever achieved in Canada.

Firm Steps: Identifying Lameness in Dairy Cattle CD-ROM
Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development

  • CDs were created to teach dairy producers how to recognize lameness at an early stage to reduce both cost and animal suffering.

Elevate 2008: Reaching New Heights in Videoconferencing
Alberta Education

  • This international conference connected experts in the field and showcased Alberta’s success in videoconferencing.

Temporary Foreign Worker Enforcement Project
Alberta Employment and Immigration

  • This project clarifies the roles and responsibilities of federal and provincial governments to ensure temporary foreign workers are treated in accordance to legislation.

The Alberta Provincial Stroke Strategy: Improving Stroke Care in Alberta
Alberta Health and Wellness

  • This ongoing initiative allows more Albertans to have access to stroke services regardless of their place of residence and need, helping turn stroke survivors into “stroke thrivers.”

Changing Faces – Protect Your Identity Education Kit
Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security, Service Alberta

  • This awareness package helps Albertans protect themselves from identity theft and get help if they are victims.

Alberta Personal Property Registry Electronic System
Service Alberta

  • This initiative dramatically improves the accessibility, efficiency and long-term utility of the personal property registry system by applying a rigorous, yet flexible business process to meet client needs.

Pay and Benefits Service Level Agreement
Service Alberta

  • The Service Level Agreement signed off by all 24 ministries, defines a cross-ministry standard for pay and benefits services.

    If you really pay attention to the news, you will find that this just a propaganda stunt by the Stelmach Government.
